My grandparents love the chicken and the early bird special. It has been difficult to find a deal and quality, but our happy compromise these days is one of my Park-Ex favorites, Orama (some of my others are Tripoli, Halal 786, Marvin’s, and Village Grec). As far as quality, freshness, and price Orama is hard to beat. They make delicious charcoal whole grilled Greek chicken (among top 3 in the city), good Greek salad, bad-ass wedged home cut fries, and an interestingly spiced rice. They are extremely consistent and have yet to disappoint. I gotta tell all of you how nice it is to not always have to go to Deli Boys anymore, because it was truly messing with my libido.

Did you know that the Greeks actually invented the light bulb (a man named Zorba Papadulopapous), the printing press (a man named Theodakas Spanikopita), and the comedic sitcom (a man named Jesse Katsopolis)? Well amongst those humanity changing innovations they also refined Montrealers pallets thanks to Costas Spiliadis owner/chef at Milos Montreal. Milos is by far, hands down, balls to the wall the best Greek restaurant in our fine city. The Milos special is a must have (perfectly deep fried zucchini, eggplant, and saganaki) as an appetizer, along with fried calamari, grilled octopus, soft shell crab, and grilled mushrooms and peppers. Their Greek salad is the true indicator because if you close your eyes when you bit into one of the tomatoes, you would swear that they were just picked from the vine in Santorini. The fish at Milos will never disappoint. It’s so fresh that after it is flash grilled you can still taste the salt from the ocean. For dessert hopefully you can get the birthday cake with the burnt caramel on top, but if not the honey balls (teehee) are light fluffy ballerific excellence. The only bad thing that I have to say about Milos restaurant is that they have disposed of their bionic toilets (but maybe they ate a small child or something?).

Milos Restaurant started the trend, Faros had a stint close to the top, Phillinos was good once upon a time, but now if you’re looking for one of the best Greek restaurants in Montreal, restaurant Symposium won’t disappoint. The platter with grilled octopus, grilled calamari, and fried calamari was perfection. All of the trio melted in your mouth, and were seamlessly spiced. The highlight of the meal though where their special scallops (you ask why special? I’ll never tell) . Eating them was like a party in my mouth which Richard Prior, Kevin Nealon, and Norm Macdonald all happened to be in attendance for. I thank you Mr. Symposium for being so magically delicious.

When i was just a little tyke two staples in my diet were Ruby Foo’s poo poo platter and Rotisserie Panama’s lamb chops. They both helped make me into quite the portly child and left me with fond memories of deliciousnesses. Recently my family ventured back to restaurant Panama (unfortunately not Ruby Foo’s cause it was demolished but we still have a brick) to see if the memories would hold true but were highly disappointed. All the meat (lamb chops, veal chops, chicken) was under spiced, mediocre, and lacked that coveted charcoal flavor. The greek salad was OK, the tzatziki was tzatziki, the grilled octopus was undercooked and horrible, and the fried calamari was nothing to write home about. The only worthwhile mentions were the fried zucchini and eggplant, the horta, and fabulous honey balls. Sorry Rotisserie Panama but you’ve lost that Olympian statues.

T-Bone brought me for what he said was the best overall everything type restaurant in the area. T-bone I’m sorry fine sir but you must have been dropped on head a few to many time as a kid. The feta and olive salad was so weak (no goat feta, caned olives, and who the hell would call that a salad). The veal marsala was by far the worst I’ve ever tasted, the scallopini was ok and the chicken brochette was ordinary. The sub was a quarter decent, and the Greek salad was so very not so good. I’m soooorrry good friend but next time you suggest something I’m gonna have to say the nay no my damee!

Emanuele the Greek introduced use a few years back and since then I have been enjoying our great love affair. Of all the reasonably priced Montreal Greek Restaurants, I must say Tripolis you are my number one. Your grilled Octopus is at par with all the top Greek restaurants in Montreal. The village Greek salad is almost perfect (could use goat feta but your olive oil is top notch), charcoal grilled lamb chops are amazing, lamb ribs make me weep, your grilled shrimp are big and beautiful, saganaki is perfection, great tzatziki, fried potatoes in olive oil so dang good, love your horta, and best of all you have the mini wine glasses for your Malamatina. Ta boot you’re opened until 2am every night and 5am on the weekends!

There’s so many French restaurants in this city that beat this list to a pulp with a mallet. It reads like a Plattsburghian’s guide to Montreal French restaurants. For those looking for a good French dinning experience here’s a few top picks; Christophe on Van Horne, I think is my favorite (byob), Bonapart, Pegasus (byob), Le P’tit Plateau (byob), Brunoise, La Colombe is amazing (byob), L’Entrecote St-Jean, Toque, YoYo but gone down hill a bit(byob), and so many more… Don’t worry ya’ll I’m a French food junky so we’ll have many more reviews. Oh ya Le Paris has the bomb mashed potatoes and pepper steak.

Nothin’ wrong with eatin Italian on a budget but most of these restaurants I wouldn’t even bring my dog to except for Napoletana. Eduardo’s why didn’t you burn down with Lombardis, you would have done have this city a great service. All of you should go to Cafe Via Dante (homemade gnocchi), Tre Marie, Rottiserie Italian (very cheap), or Bis for an expensive treat.
