Jano
On Montreal Restaurant Jano Chef Deck says:

Did you know that the Portuguese saying “A mulher e a sardinha querem-se da mais pequenina” means “Women and sardines, you want them to be small”. Just a little food for thought. When your lookin for quick, reasonable, Portuguese restaurant grill on the Main, Janos (big brother to restaurant Le Barcelos Grillades nearby on Prince Arthur) won’t disappoint. I recommend getting the grilled mixed combo plate where you can choose a combo of four different dishes (chicken, lamb chops, octopus, sausage, rabbit, quail, and I forget what else). This particular night we opted for grilled trout and calamari which were both grilled to perfection (with great home cut fries). The only thing that is consistently poor at Janos is the starter salad (at least there’s bread and olives though). So old friend Mr. Jano I’ll always like you but I can’t say I love you.

Food:7.69343/10
Service: Very attentive with the ketchup, mayo, hot sauce situation/10
Price: $10-$15-$25 a person/10

Great place, simple dishes but tasty, nice staff what else do you want !!!. Those lamb chops are to die for. The only bad thing about this place : It’s getting very popular and it’s a mad house on the week end….Good for them…bad for me.
    Highly recommended.

I don’t know why you are getting down on the salad. It may not be extravagant but it is always very crisp and fresh, with a tasty vinaigrette. Yes some iceberg but not exclusively, it is a mix of greens, and one slice of tomato is sufficient for a small salad. And it’s free. What exactly is your problem with the salad?

I eat at Janos Regularly. The owner, Carlos Casteneira and his daughter run a great place. He is quite frank, “I have good fresh food at good prices, I don't pretend to be anything else”.
He is right. I did not get better in Portugal. Carlos and his staff are attentive without being pushy, and the food is clean and tasty without being overdone. His thin cut round “Portguese fries” are a treat, and his selection of Portuguese wines are a real surprise.
You always get a side salad to start”On the house”, with Portuguese bread and really delicious olives. I don't know what “Chef Deck” is annoyed about, unless he'she wants to over stuff with grass before the main course. Try the custard tart for desert made by the daughter, this is a genuine Portuguese specialty, or the rice pudding, another typical Portuguese dish.
No, I don't have any financial interest in Janos, nor is this a “Put up” review.
