The best salad dressing in town.

Unfortunately neither the food nor the service keep up with the salad dressing.

I had the appetizer of sardines the main course of Chicken and lamb, which was the combo of the day which I shared with someone who ordered the quail.

The sardines were over cooked and under-flavored. The chicken was severely overcooked, the spices might have been ok, if it wasn't so dry and the quail was completely massacred. It was so dry and burnt that it was a misery to eat. On the good side, you would not have to worry about getting salmonella or something of the sort... The lamb was very mediocre, and ironically a bit undercooked.

The service was ridiculous, I had to get up after 20 minutes when 3 of us could not get the waiter over and ask him if the wine he was drinking was any good and if I could interrupt for some service.

At 40 dollars with wine plus tip this meal was among the worst I have ever had. Having met friends from Belgium there just made it worse because I was bragging about the great food in Montreal.

To top it all off I left with a terrible stomach ache from the food.

This restaurant has great salad dressing, but I hear so does McDonalds and at least you will be spending less and know what you are in for.

I eat at Janos Regularly. The owner, Carlos Casteneira and his daughter run a great place. He is quite frank, "I have good fresh food at good prices, I don't pretend to be anything else".
He is right. I did not get better in Portugal. Carlos and his staff are attentive without being pushy, and the food is clean and tasty without being overdone. His thin cut round "Portguese fries" are a treat, and his selection of Portuguese wines are a real surprise.
You always get a side salad to start"On the house", with Portuguese bread and really delicious olives. I don't know what "Chef Deck" is annoyed about, unless he'she wants to over stuff with grass before the main course. Try the custard tart for desert made by the daughter, this is a genuine Portuguese specialty, or the rice pudding, another typical Portuguese dish.
No, I don't have any financial interest in Janos, nor is this a "Put up" review.

I don't know why you are getting down on the salad. It may not be extravagant but it is always very crisp and fresh, with a tasty vinaigrette. Yes some iceberg but not exclusively, it is a mix of greens, and one slice of tomato is sufficient for a small salad. And it's free. What exactly is your problem with the salad?

Great place, simple dishes but tasty, nice staff what else do you want !!!. Those lamb chops are to die for. The only bad thing about this place : It's getting very popular and it's a mad house on the week end....Good for them...bad for me.
Highly recommended.
