La Louisiane Steak

On La Louisiane restaurant Montreal Chef Deck says:

Austin Leslie would’ve been proud of restaurant La Louisiane last week because the food was in my opinion almost perfect. The problem with this Montreal cajun, creole restaurant is that eating here is about as consistent as Ray Charles’ dart game. On this particular occasion we started with the firecracker shrimp which were battered, deep fried, shrimpsensations. One main we ate was the prime rib and it was just amazing (seasoned, cooked a perfect medium rare, and as tender as a Roy Orbison ballad). For the other main we had a baked salmon filet in a dill crust with a roaster red pepper sauce that was truly out of this world. I hope with all my heart that La Louisiane keeps it up because last weeks meal was one to remember.

Tastiness: 8.92691273 /10 (sometimes 6.1213132442/10)
Drinks: Rampage Jackson / 10
Price: avg $20 mains /10

Did they change the chef recently? Granted it’s probably been a year or two since I ate there, but I was dissapointed. I had some kind of cajuny shrimp and it really was not good. I guess meat is the way to go here – the steak in the picture looks delicious!

Inconsistent? More like Incontinence, because they have an extreme inability to control what comes out of that kitchen.
I know many people who like this place, but for the Butcher it falls into that mediocre, why is this popular N.D.G restaurant category…

I was at this restaurant a friday night in december 2008. For my part, everything taste perfectly. A had the combo cajun plate, Sweet Potatoe Fries
fries and Hushpuppies on the side.

The place was quiet and clean.

THe only thing I can say for now is that I would like a bigger portion. I'm looking to go again in few weeks…

Its cute lil place. decent menu, alright on the palette. Had high hopes due lots of good feedback & word of mouth recommendations. Tried several different plates, as was there with large party. But I do love them Sweet Potatoe Fries. Them good!
    I'd go back, and recommend.8/10

i love this place… the aromas in the air are drool inducing… they catered my sisters wedding a little while ago,, , undercooked my steak!! but never the less, the meal was of course delectable,,,, i have yet to eat anything there that wasnt absolutely delicious, this place single handedly got me back on seafood after a long period of staying as far away from it as possible following a rather unfortunate experience in china town with tainted squid some years bak…..,, the service can sometimes seem a bit slow but its understandable cause the rather small place tends to get packed on the regular..still always a delightful experience.

p.s, i say undercooked my steak cuz, to me when i say “well done”, this means i dont want my food to be bleeding all over the plate.. but to each there own.. so…

    So Disappointing..

There is alot to say about this resto. The atmosphere is warm… and thats were it ends. The food was so outright sad. I am a Chef and I do have high expectations. but that being said I went to this restaurant with the love of Cajun cuisine and simple comfort food. I am not expecting beautiful constructed plates or over the top service. I want Cajun food. What I and my family was served was so far from it.

My girlfriend and I ordered the legendary Gumbo YaYa.. a standard Cajun soup that is one of the staples of this cuisine. We were served overcooked rice, burnt peppers, 3 overcooked small shrimp and smoothered in a quasi espangnole sauce. The espangnole sauce was so over thicken with floor that I bet if I baked it I could have made some sort of bread. I took one bite, knowing full while this was not what we order and was appuld. My taste bud were crying for mercy! I called the server over, politely not to make a scene in the resto and for my family. I asked her that she gave us the wrong dish. Thats when things got funny. She told me that no, I was wrong… this is Gumbo YaYa. I politely argued that indeed no, this is so far from it. This was slop. She then proceded to tell me that maybe it is me that doesn't know what the dish actually was! This did not sit well with me. I told her to take it back and bring my some Gumbo, soupish like dish! The server brought the dish back and gave us some Chicken Noodle soup and apologized that we didnt understand the dish. Nice touch…

The main, the Cajun Combo, was a nice display of consistency. At least the kitchen is consistent in the deliver of overcook, underseasoned garbage. Honestly folks, for the price you pay, and the place is not expensive, what a huge disappointment. The problem lies in the kitchen and I would know; this is what happens when cooks get lazy. I mean come on, I business is hard enough, if you don't have any love or passion move aside and stop ripping people off.

    Stay away…. Trust me.

last time i was there i had the best steak in the house. i regret having the sauce on the steak, it was gross. 6/10. rather go to baton rouge even tho its commercial and has no love, it still tastes better than la lou.
