On L’Assommoir Restaurant Montreal Chef Deck says:

Forget about the food just attach the Basil Martini to my veins. Restaurent L’Assommoir by far has the best bartender in the city. All the drinks are innovative and delicious and though pricy well worth the cost. As far as the food goes it’s very good but by no means the best. We started with a trio of Cerviches and Tartar of which my rankings go as follows: Beef tartar was excellent, Shrimp and avocado cerviche was fresh and good (but boring), and the salmon tuna tartar was just OK (done Asian style… would have been better with no salmon). For the main we had a meat platter with Chorizo sausage (ordinary), Grilled chicken (succulent), Bavette (mediocre), Lamb Shank (very good but under spiced), Tuluse Sausage (perfect), all accompanied by grilled veggies and delicious roasted potatoes. The combo platter’s for tapas, tartars & cerviches, and mains help make it much more reasonably priced. By the way had a great bottle of “Clos de Los Liete” a beautiful big Argentinean red.

Drinks: Best creations ever thanks to a flash bartender/10
Food: 7.4343/10
Atmosphere: Great date place/10

the parisian martini (raspberry and basil) is by far my favorite martini at L’assomoir.

  • Dubers

Great selection of Vodkas. By far most talented bartenders in the city. Martinis are best when your shirt is off…which they don’t seem to mind at L’Assommoir.

Returning for dinner Sat. night but have heard again that food is so so. Still best drinks in town…will try to stay sober enough to remember the food.

Did they change their sign in front? I was there a coupla years ago and don’t remember there being tacky Boreal logos overhead.
I also had so-so ceviche. Something with scallops give me the jeebies.
