I don’t know what happened to this restaurant, the reviews from years back were excellent, perhaps it changed ownership.

I was walking in the
neighborhood at lunch and decided “hey, here’s somewhere I’ve never
been”. Well, I wish I’d kept walking. It was lunchtime, and the
restaurant was empty, not a good sign.
Sat down and ordered
Calamar, and my friend ordered Noodles with Chicken. The appetizers and
soup were incredible, the fried cabbage was a real treat, and the soup
was spicy, homemade and satisfied absolutely.
Where could this go wrong?
Well,
the main dishes came and my Calamari tasted more like old shoes, and
had a horrific consistency. I sent it back. My dining mate dove into her
noodles and chicken, and it had zero taste. The owner charged me FULL
PRICE for two meals that were inedible, and appeared to become extremely
agitated.
Needless to say I’d never eat there, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

AH! MAZING place – the place empty -next door french resto was packed…but I was laughing my head off..coz the food at sylvester’s was a lot LOT a LOT better….

We have eaten here numerous times and NEVER gotten sick. The food is great. We went a few weeks ago and the place has been fixed up. Sylvestre retired and other family members have taken over. There is now a written menu. This is a great place for good, inexpensive, tasty food. I

I had dinner there last winter. The food was very tasty. My dinner companion had shrimp creole which were big, juicy and plentyfull. We enjoyed our evening very much.
When we went to the cash to pay, we could see in the kitchen (that’s in full view behind the cash) that uncooked shrimps were stored on the counter, next to the cooking area, in dirty water in a plastic container . We could also see other pieces of chicken and meat piles on the counter touching each other. Well…my dinner companion got sick that night…very sick. Given that he had nothing to eat more than 8 hours prior to his meal and felf fine before it could only be the shrimps.
My conclusion, Sylvester makes tasty food but would definitely need a refresher course on food handling safety !

Sylvester is my hero! He makes you feel like you are at his house and cooks damm great food. If you want to have an amazing meal for almost no money and have the night of your life talking with Chef Sylvester this is the place.
