Chef Deck says:
There is a little good and a little bad to all Montreal breakfast restaurants and Oxford Café restaurant is a fine example of both. The good is the thin and delicious fruit filled pancakes (though me I’m a salty breakfast lover), the great cheese omelets with real cheddar (except for when they’re undercooked and the cheese isn’t melted), and the crack heads from the neighborhood. The bad is the fact that they charge for real maple syrup, that they refuse to butterfly their sausage, and their patats that taste good at first but then transform themselves like the hot chick from Species to become rather nauseating. Price is about ten dalla per body involved in the eating session.

Getting into a yelling match with the owner because of the fact that it’s soooo difficult to run a knife through a sausage in order to make it 10,000% better: What a $#%$%*% c@!*/10

I am happy to report miracles do happen. As a special treat for Canada Day the sausage was butterflied upon request. Well done Oxford, now we need to work on the other 364 days if the year.

This afternoon, 3 colleagues and myself decided to try lunch at Oxford on 2170 St Catherine West. I have NEVER in my life experienced such unprofessionalism in a restaurant setting. We were served by the owner. It seemed to start off well. We ordered 4 meals:
1 bacon cheeseburger meal
2 chicken brochette meals
1 fish’nchips
This restaurant offers either soup or salad bar with the lunch specials. The two soups to choose from were either cream of brocolli or tomato vegetable. I chose the brocolli which was standard but edible. My colleague ordered the vegetable soup. She immediately commented how it tasted foul. Two of us tried it to see if she was being fussy, and truthfully it was the worst soup I have ever tasted. Basically, a pot of soup was made with a cup of tomato juice and diluted with water. My colleague mentioned this to the owner who proceeded to yell at her, claiming that she doesn’t know what she is talking about… her soup is perfectly fine! She did not want to offer anything as a substitute. I already ate my brocolli soup and was done. A moment later ther owner offers my colleague to get some salad from the salad bar. She was disappointed from being yelled at already but after a few moments I persuaded her just to get some salad and told her I would walk up with her. The owner saw me and yelled “you don’t get salad!! you already had soup”. I assured her that I was aware of what came with my meal considering my hands wer empty. My other colleague first asked her how sticks of chicken come with the meal and she yelled at him saying “well for the price you are paying, how many do you expect? of course only one!”. Fine. He then asked what kind of fish was in the fish’n'chips and she again yelled at him saying “what kind of question is that? everyone knows what kind of fish!”
We found her attitude very rude and were afraid to ask any more questions. In the meanwhile another customer came in and sat down. He plugged in his lap top. She saw him and yelled at him saying “who gave you permission to plug your computer in? this is my electricity. i may allow you this time to plug it in but absolutely no guarantees the next time you come here.” He looked scared and apologized.
She continued to be rude so at one point I had enough and asked her “why are you yelling at your customer’s like this… this is not how to treat people.” She became EXTREMELY defensive and yelled that she doesn’t need us. She stated that we do NOT have a right to be in her restauarnt - only she does because she owns it! Obviously she was irrational and emotionally unstable. I commented that I was surprised she has stayed in business with this attitude and lack of customer service. She retorted that she has been in business for 25 years! I replied that I doubted she would be there for another 25. That is when she said that we were never allowed back. I told her to rest assured that we would NOT be back. She said she only wants good people at her establishment. Perhaps she meant passive people who would put up with her verbal abuse! While walking out, she had the audacity to tell us not to live the rest of our lives so unhappy. I smiled and told her to look in the mirror. We asked to get our cheque to pay and she yelled that we can come to the front and get them ourselves.
We paid. No tip for this witch.
We returned to work and said the story to the rest of our department - we had a great chuckle!
Don’t waste your time unless you wish to live out an episode of Seinfeld.

I have also been to Oxford on Sherbrooke St. and have had the same abusive treatment from the female owner. She is a horrible person and treats customers like crap. I will never go back there. I hope that they go out of business, with that kind of attitude.

I used to live near the Oxford and had several bad experiences with this woman and finally vowed never to return. Perhaps the worst outrage was, after having been seated we were not given menus. I subsequently asked one of the waitresses working to please bring 2 menus for myself and my dining companion. The owner saw the two of us getting menus and proceded to come over and take them away again, whereupon she started to yell at the poor waitress “Who told you they could have menus? I never said they could have menus. … etc”
At this point, coffee already poored we got up to leave. The woman began to tell us that if we left she would call the police. I told her to please go ahead a do so and left. Have never been back.
