Arg, so here we go,
sorry to my readers that I’ve been on the lam for 2 months but I’m back in action with eyebrows nicely trimmed.
SO, just got home from my favorite Montreal deli and my skin is quite oily after that hearty sandwich. Ok so agree with chef dork that Schwartz’s Deli is grade A beef but i have to say Snowdon Deli is a close runner up and a definite must frequent.
The atmosphere there is 10/10. You’re guaranteed to see the community’s who’s who. You finally feel like your part of the in-crowd. But my favorite is when the alter kuckers (geriatrics) come in with their Iv’s, walkers and Oxygen tanks. While I’m eating they’re making weird noises i.e. coleslaw stuck in their throat. And who can forget the valuable gossip you gain by just paying a little attention to the chitter chatter of voices throughout the deli. Always a good scene.
Service with attitude, don’t mess with these old time waitresses. you better have your order ready and no substitutions! My favorite is the kreplach soup, over 1000 mg of salt not including the side crackers. Try their famous old fashioned smoked meat, medium cut ordered hot with mustard in between two doughy pieces of rye bread. Finally, my favorite part is when i go pay my bill, (READER BONER ALERT) check it out yourself but you will encounter the blond shiksa (non jew for you common folk) who in my opinion is a perfect 10. She is the 4th best cashier in all of the land!
Don’t forget to pass by the take out counter and pick up some cocktail verenekes, halishkes, kasha bowties and some kishke (stuffed cow intestine).
Food: yummy delicious comfort food
Service: rough and tough
Parking: circle the block for free parking on the the side streets- meter parking in front
Washroom facilities: Mothball ALERT!
meaningful quote “The sea was angry that day, my friends. Like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli”- George Costanza
T-Bone Dog is dining and dashing! over and out!

Hey guys,
seriously, is it cool for friends of eat well to be poking fun…? tisk on you T Bone Dog for making fun of a helpless chef without a job, Chef Deck, not dork, you’ll always be the prime cut in my dreams.

yes yes, a fine eatery indeed. Good on you lad for making a valid assessment of a time-honored smoked-meateteria.

While I agree with yor overall review, I think it is if only fair to note that the perfect 10 mentioned might wind you in jail or at a minimum some watch list. For all that is good I think the cashier is 12, at best 16.

Tom thanks for the kind words… I hope i’m a bone in filet mignon.
And to you T-bone your lucky we used to take baths together as a children because the past lightens your derogatory comments with fine memories of of bubbles and rubber ducky’s.
And to you Sou Chef Shhtook you must remember that the legal consensual age in Quebec is 14.

t-bone, snowdon deli isn’t bad but there are lots of other places in Montreal with way better smoked meat: Schwartz’s, Smoked Meat Pete, Abes. I hear they buy their smoked meat from delstar foods which makes the smoked meat by injecting them with nitrogen instead of smoking the old fashioned way. They are the ones that have a smoked meat counter at the bell center and supply most of the delis in the city. The service there is also pretty weak , definitely lots of attitude!

Absolutely agree with Ralph. Snowdon deli isn’t old school, it’s just old. Schwartz’s gets my vote.

If you can’t handle the heat, stay out of the deli.
Snowdon Deli is good old fashioned fun. Which reminds me, always order the old fashioned meat, it’s was better than regular.
