Katsura Japanese Restaurant

Chef Deck is sad to say:

I’m sure most of you have heard that our city has lost 3 great Montreal institutions in the past month.

Le Continental French bistro and bar Barouf burn down

One Monday we lost Le Continental French bistro and the great bar Barouf. I’m sorry to say that if the insurance money is not enough to cover the costs to rebuild; they will both be no more. I say that we should all hold hands and pray for the return of beer bongs and wildly entertaining free flow urinal troughs.

Katsura Restaurant closed

Our other loss this month was Katsura Restaurant (yes I wept like an over achieving high school girl who only got a 79% on her Canadian history exam). This 35 year old Japanese institution closed its doors unexpectedly on June 30th. I have such fond childhood memories there of chicken teriyaki, moriawase Katsura, fried onions, and the coveted kneeling tables. You were my first and I’ll never forget you.

Chef Deck cuts his tie, sits on a little chair, and signs out!
